Samsung SyncMaster 920NW Black 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor

    Duration of ownership: 30 Weeks

    Strengths: Non-reflective screen

    Weaknesses:Darkness; contrast; color inconsistency

Overall Evaluation: I've purchased three different 19" wide screen monitors to compare in anticipation of finding a standard for our company. They are the SyncMaster 920NW, HannsG HW191D and Gateway FPD1976W. The non-reflective screen of the SyncMaster 920NW and HannsG HW191D is their major advantage over the Gateway. That feature is essential in brightly lit offices or where outside light could cause a glare. However that's the only advantage. The SyncMaster and HannsG have the same weaknesses relative to the Gateway: (1) the screen appears a little darker at the top and gets lighter as you move down; (2) the contrast or definition of letters and pictures is noticeably inferior and (3) there is a strange color variation in the letters/words displayed . . . while they are suppose to be black, some letters have a green or red color or shade. If it wasn't for the glossy surface of the Gateway, I would readily standardize on them. However, we have reflection problems and I'm going to have to standardize on the HannsG and SyncMaster. The best way to think about the difference is to think of the argument between the large screen LCD and plasma TVs. The plasma (Gateway) looks better but the LCD (SyncMaster 920NW or HannsG) doesn't have the irritating reflections from every light and window in the room. All three monitors are in the same price range and well below the cost of the top of the line monitors. All have good enough resolution for office work.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: - good LCD monitor (19") for the price, especially with $40/= rebate

Weaknesses:- with only 1440x900, compare with 19" conventional LCD monitor (1280x1024), it has less viewing area.

Overall Evaluation: Samsung SyncMaster 920NW is good LCD monitor (19") for the price, especially with $40/= rebate. But the viewing area is too small. Thus it is good for elementary or middle school students.

Strengths: Widescreen, good picture. vibrant colors.

    Weaknesses:no adjustable stand.

Overall Evaluation: I bought this for my parents for xmas. They were using an HP 15" monitor for years, and I though that they would enjoy the upgrade. Well, they did. I did not even need to help them install it. My dad did it himself, and he said that he didnt even need to use the install CD. Windows XP recognized it instantly. Plug and Play, basically. With a few tweaks of the factory settings, this monitor looks great!

Strengths: Great value, good experience with other Samsung products.

    Weaknesses:none so far

Overall Evaluation: Great monitor for the price, looks so much better than giant old CRT monitor we used to have. Easy to hook up. Great, quick, worry-free service from PC Nation. 2nd order from them in 2 weeks.

    Duration of ownership: 2 Months

    Strengths: It works?

Weaknesses:Overall quality, viewing angles, auto adjusting

Overall Evaluation: When I buy Samsung products I usually expect better engineering. This monitor fell way below my expectations. It is somewhat flimsy, looks cheap. Auto adjusting is just too slow and sometimes you need to press an "auto" button to re-adjust it because screen is just off! Vertical viewing angles are awful; even when you look at it just slightly from above, an image appears in reverse colors. No DVI.Bottom line: there are much better monitors around at this price and even less.
